Divorce Lawyers in Frederick, MD

Going through a divorce may be one of the most difficult things you do in your lifetime. It is an emotional process for all parties involved and brings you to a point where you start a new chapter in your life. The attorneys at The Law Offices of Shipe & Bush, P.C., believe everyone going through divorce deserves to be represented by someone who cares about the outcome of his or her case.

We handle all types of divorce and family law matters, including issues in the complex area of military family law. When you work with our divorce lawyers, you can expect to get the attention and advice you need to make an informed decision for you and your family. We take the necessary time to explain the legal issues of your case, identify strategies that we can pursue and advise of a likely outcome of the situation.

New Law

On October 1, 2023, Maryland divorce law changed dramatically. The old regime of fault divorces based on desertion, adultery, cruelty, etc. is now obsolete. Maryland has now adopted irreconcilable differences, mutual consent and separation as the only grounds (basis) for divorce. Our attorneys stay up to date on the changes in Maryland law and are ready to assist you in navigating these changes.

Reaching A Fair Divorce Settlement

Divorce is a process, and during the process, you and your spouse may be able to come to an agreement on all issues relating to the marriage. This includes such issues as alimony, child support, child custody, property division (dividing assets and debts), and more.

If agreements cannot be made on all issues of your divorce, then a trial will be necessary where the court will make a decision based on the circumstances of your case and the evidence presented. Our attorneys have substantial trial experience and are ready to litigate if a fair agreement cannot be achieved.

Your Children And Divorce

When children are involved, the situation can be especially difficult. We work closely with parents to protect their rights while understanding the best interest of children is paramount. No parent has an inherit greater right than the other parent to have custody of their children. When possible we help parents reach an amicable custody or parenting time agreement that is in the children’s best interests. However, if an agreement cannot be reached, we will vigorously fight to protect your parental rights both inside and outside the courtroom.
